Help identifying Erkennungsmarke.
I have a German WW2 erkennungsmarke and need help identifying it. I am new to this so any information or additional resources welcome. I am looking to see what the numbers mean and where I can find more on whom thisbelonged to. Is there such a resource?
Das Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon 6 wurde am 19. Februar 1940 in Hamm, im Wehrkreis VI, aufgestellt. Das Bataillon unterstand der Division 406. Noch im Jahr 1940 wurde das Bataillon nach Lüdenscheid, ebenfalls Wehrkreis VI, verlegt. Hier wurde das Bataillon in der Weißenburg-Kaserne untergebracht. Im Oktober 1942 wurde das Bataillon in ein Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon 6 und ein Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon 6 geteilt. Im April 1943 wurde diese beiden dann zum Landesschützen-Ersatz- und Ausbildungs-Bataillon 6 vereinigt. Daraufhin wurde das neue Bataillon nach Osnabrück, ebenfalls Wehrkreis VI, verlegt. 1944 wurden aus dem Bataillon heraus mehrere Einheiten aufgestellt und das alte Bataillon hörte damit auf zu bestehen. Dies waren das Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon I./6 in Osnabrück, im Wehrkreis VI, das Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon II./6 in Rheinsberg, ebenfalls Wehrkreis VI, das Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon I./6 in Grave, in der Niederlande, am 12. Juni 1944 das Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon II./6 und das Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon III./6 in Weert, ebenfalls in der Niederlande. Das Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon II./6 war als Feldeinheit für den Westen gebildet wurden. Dort wurde es dann auch im August 1944 vernichtet. Im September 1944 entstand als Walküreeinheit wieder ein Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon II./6 mit 4 Kompanien (1102 Mann) und wurde in die 246. Infanterie-Division eingegliedert. Das Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon I./6 wurde im September 1944 als Walküreeinheit mit 5 Kompanien (1350 Mann) mobil gemacht. Das Bataillon I./6 wurde als Füsilier-Bataillon in die 190. Infanterie-Division eingegliedert. Das Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon III./6 wurde im September 1944 als Walküreeinheit mit 5 Kompanien mit 1296 Mann in die 12. Volks-Grenadier-Division eingegliedert. Ende Dezember 1944 wurde das Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon III./6 mit 2 Kompanien neu aufgestellt und erhielt Feldpostnummern. 1945 wurde ein neues Landesschützen-Ausbildungs-Bataillon I./6 in Langenberg, ebenfalls Wehrkreis VI, aufgestellt. Das Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon I./6 verlegte am 25. März 1945 nach Münster, ebenfalls Wehrkreis VI.

Welcome to the forum! In addition to the excellent information provided by Daarom on the Unit your ID disk refers to (Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon 6), the number one on the disk refers to the first company, and the number 554 is the soldiers roll number. Unfortunately, there is no way to associate any ID disk with an individual soldier unless you are a relative of the soldier. The archives are closed to non-relatives.
This is a relative actually; my great grandfather. I haven’t been able to locate where I would apply for more information on him as a relative. That’s where I’m getting stuck.

Landschutz Bataillon 6 was large, most will have seen or have one in their own collections. Good luck with your research.
