    Between the wars Germany did not actually have any proper Military Police. When MPs were needed for major troop movements such as the Anschluss with Austria, or the invasion of the Sudetenland, personnel from the civil police (usually the Gendarmerie) were temporarily attached to the army.

    Walter Tronnier was one of these.

    Tronnier was born in 1903 , his civil profession was as a Turner before joining the Police. The photo is from his time in Infanterie Regiment 65.

    He is first registered for military service in 1925, at which point he is serving with the Schutzpolizei in Bremen.

    He does his military service between 1935 and 1937, after who he returned to the Police, and as we can see, joined the Feldgendarmerie in 1939, served as an MP until 1942 when he was released from military service.

    Already a Feldwebel from his previous military service, he is promoted to Stabsfeldwebel in November 1939. Note also the award of the Military Long Service Awards 4th and 3rd Classes.

    When he is released from military service, he already holds the highest NCO rank. Note that he is designated as suitable for the rank of Leutnant der Reserve.

    The Polizei Dienstpass also adds some important details not reflected in the Wehrpass.

    This Dienstpass was issued in 1941.
