Nice group of documents with an interesting story. The soldier was released from active duty in January 1945 when he was found unfit for further military service (Dienstunfähigkeit). It could be the result of his injury from November 1943 because he never returned to a field unit. Quite lucky.

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Hi Pavel, it was as a result of his injury in '43 he was unfit for military service.
@Paul D. He served in the Newel area. But what I liked was his Dienstausweis not a record often encountered. Stewy

Bringing this thread back to the top. I've been informed that the EK2 signature is that of Lieutenant General Kurt Chill (122 Inf. Div) & not Heinrichs. Which makes more sense. Stewy
