Default Need Help - Write Up of ‘Soldbuch-Ersatz’ etc To Obergefreiter Rudolf Hubertus Pabst von Ohain.

Hi Chaps, here's my latest addition, a ‘Soldbuch-Ersatz’, ‘Verwundeten-Abzeichen in Silber' and ‘Beglaubigter Auszug aus dem Wehrpass’ To Obergefreiter Rudolf Hubertus Pabst von Ohain. If anybody can add to my 'write up' below I'd be grateful.

One question - In the German War Graves details it states he is buried in 'grave: 55'; but then doesn't state the cemetery!!?? I'm assuming this is a mistake & he is buried near the hospital is Schwenningen. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help,

    Cheers,

    Richard.

‘Soldbuch-Ersatz’, ‘Verwundeten-Abzeichen in Silber' and ‘Beglaubigter Auszug aus dem Wehrpass’ To Obergefreiter Rudolf Hubertus Pabst von Ohain.
    1./Fest.Inf.Flak.Btl.837.

    Soldbuch-Ersatz issued on 27/04/1945.
Entitled to: Silver Wound Badge awarded on 16/05/1945.
Hubertus (as he preferred to be known) was born on 20/01/1916 in Charlottenburg, Berlin. His father, Walter, was an Oberstleutnant. Hubertus was married to Ingeborg and of Evangelical/Lutheran faith. In civilian life he was an export businessman.
    Hubertus served with a 'Heeres-Flak' unit, 1./Fest.Inf.Flak.Btl.837.
The first issued document in the group is a pre-war (dated 27/11/1937) ‘Beglaubigter Auszug aus dem Wehrpass’ (Certified extract from the Wehrpass). Issued in Hamburg, it is clearly states that Pabst von Ohain was found unfit to serve. This document is a little damaged and shows the clear signs of having been stored, probably with his Wehrpass, to be produced if required.
The ‘Soldbuch-Ersatz’, which was issued to Pabst von Ohain on 27/04/1945, when he was hospitalised in the ‘Reservelazarett Schwenningen’ in Baden-Württemberg. It states that Pabst von Ohain was severely injured on 25/04/1945 by a grenade splinter to his left side that damaged his foot, lung and arm. His arm was so badly injured that it was amputated on the 26/04/1945. This probably explains what happened to his original Soldbuch, as if he was carrying it in his left breast pocket it would surely have been damaged or blood soaked by his wounds. Being wounded by a grenade also indicates that Hubertus was fighting in a close combat roll, maybe anti-tank, by the end of the war although serving with a Flak unit.
The ‘Verwundeten-Abzeichen in Silber' was awarded on 16/05/1945 eight days after the end of the war. The award document is signed by an unidentified 'Oberstabsarzt u. Chefarzt’, who served within the ‘Lazarett’ based in Schwenningen. This document bears the same ink-stamp as the ‘Soldbuch-Ersatz’. Of additional interest is the added typed text: ‘...mit nachfolgender Amputation’ (amputation), something that is not often encountered on these certificates.
Both are not denazified; but simply marked with a stamp bearing no eagle and swastika as one was issued just before the end of the war and one just after.
Sadly Hubertus died of his wounds on 01/06/1945 (see German War Graves below).

    Good morning Richard,

He appears to have been buried in the cemetery closest to the reserve hospital, at Schwennigen.

    Sent you a PM.
