Default Originality of EK2 Award Document.

Guys, I'd like to know if this document is period (pre May 1945) and would appreciate your comments.

If anyone is able to decipher the Divisional Commander's signature, that would be great too!

    Cheers, Chris.

At first glance it looks rather nice...I only wonder if it was possible for a Colonel (Oberst) to be a divisional commander in 1943...

I like what I can see in the photos.
The stamp corresponds with the unit.
I like the signature as well, it's definitely an "old" signature.
A very careful attempt to decipher might be "Huhaus"
The script of the time, plus it being an hastily written signature, makes it most often impossible to decipher.
I've owned and seen a lot of fakes, and this one looks okay to me.
As for the rank of the division commander, that would be my only question.
It is later during the war, and they might have taken a Colonel, but I really don't know....

    That actually checks out.

The commanding officer of the 16. Panzerdivision at the time that this award document was issued (23 May 1943) was Rudolf Sieckenius.

He was promoted to Oberst on 1 February 1942, became divisional commander on 5 May 1943 and was promoted to Generalmajor on 1 June 1943.

What was left of the 16 Panzer Divison was being reformed after Stalingrad so it's possible that the award could relate to that fighting , a nice document !
