Re: Pay Book???
Hi Dale, welcome to the forum!
It looks like a very nice Soldbuch.
Sadly German records are closed to non family members.
Hi Dimas, the rank was used until late 1942/early 1943. Given the rest of the book looks OK, I don't have any concerns.
Cheers, Ade.

Re: Pay Book???
That is a not often seen photo in a soldbuch, a soldier wearing the 'swallows nests' on his shoulders denoting a member of the regimental/battalion band.
Can you make out his name? It looks like Martin Mayb....
A quick check on Volksbund resulted in just one entry for a soldier with that combination - a Martin Maybauer KIA in Russia in 1943, so it isn't him but as we know, the Volksbund database is far from complete.

Re: Pay Book???
From the swallow nests was he a bandsman. I believe military bands were kept going until late 1944 even in the face of a chronic manpower shortage, then disbanded and used as cannon fodder, rather like the Luftwaffe ground crew.

Re: Pay Book???
The chances are this is an older photo taken earlier in the war. The addition of photos to the Soldbuch did not come about until 1943.
Cheers, Ade.
