Here is a rather scarce Soldbuch, and to a guy who doesn't look like the kind of geezer you would want to mess with.

His records show he served in the Wehrmacht from August to November 1939, in 228 Infanterie Division. There is then a gap until April 1942. My guess is that after the Division was disbanded in July 1940, he transferred to the SS-VT. His Stammrollnummer is for Totenkopf Infanterie Ersatz Bataillon II so he must have been with Totenkopf initially.

Interesting kit issue pages. Note the last entry in the top line is "Ringkragen". Only senior NCOs were normally issued with their own personal Gorget, others drew them from stores when on duty and returned them when off duty. Officers didn't wear the Gorget.

It was a bit of an impulse buy for me as I'm not really into SS suff, but the fact that he was Feldgendarmerie and especially the fact that after leaving Wiking he transferred to 10 SS Pz Div "Frundsberg", one unit I do have a keen interest in, having known couple of former Frundsbergers, was what sold it for me.

Interesting that he was issued an MP40. People seem to have this im,age of the archetypal Feldgendarm tooled upo with an MP40, but the standard weapon in the FEldgendarmerie, even for NCOs was the Kar98k.

Nice unit stamps for both "Wiking" and "Frundsberg".

Awards. KVK2, Ostmedaille and Wound Badge are pretty standard fare for Feldgendarmerie troops, but even a lowly EK2 is far from common.

According to Deutsche Dienststelle, he was killed in action on 22 April 1945 in Neu Petershain.

You were correct it was disnbanned. He probably saw combat in Poland. May have spent short time, as reserve in the Heer. Before he reqested a transfer to the SS.
