Hi Chaps, can anybody please help with translation of the Wehrpass pages below? I've figured out the following : -

Born 30/07/1914 in ???, near? Koblenz. He was Catholic and a labourer in civilian life.
    Entitled to: - Ostmedaille - 13/04/42, Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz - 18/08/42 and Deutsches Schutzwall - Ehrenzeichen - 09/05/40.
Albert was a was a pre-war volunteer (freiwilliger) coming forward for service in 1935. He served from 01/11/34 to 01/04/35 with the regular police in Wuppertal & then from 24/08/39 to 19/11/39 with ??????. After leaving the police Albert initially joined 1.Kp.Inf.Ers.Batt.365. from 23/11/1939. He was trained to use the K98 rifle and a P08 'Luger' pistol. He also qualified to drive a car (Wehrmacht Fuhrerschein Kl.3). He served with a couple more units before going on active service with 10.Kp.284 I.R. From 24/10/41 in Russia. He was in 2 hospitals in Lutzen and Saarfeld from 28/02 to 25/06/42 presumably recovering from wounds. Albert served with many units the most unusual being 2/Marschbtl.z.b.V.2 Baumholder?????? from 20/12/42 to 15/01/43. He then went onto serve with 9/Gren. Rgt. 335 who were part of 205 Inf. Div. and was killed in action on 17/06/1943 at ???? in Russia.

Thanks in advance for any help,

    Cheers,

    Richard.

The unit he served with from 24/08/39 to 19/11/39 is Gemisches (Mixed) Schutzen Kompanie.
Fuhrerschein Kl 3 is not just for cars. It is for cars & trucks less than 3½ ton. It might also be a permit to transport people but I am not 100% sure on that bit.

He was promoted to Gefreiter on 1st April 1943 - I can't make out the writing under 'Gefreiter'.

His first wounding was grenade splinters in the left something or other (I think it begins with a V)!

There is a Gefreiter Albert Thur listed in the Volksbund as having been killed in 1943 but the Date Of Birth & Date Of Death do not tally with the wehrpass - but it is not unheard of for the Volksbund to have such details wrongly listed.

    Hi again,

He was killed 17.6.1943 as part of the 9th Grenadier Regement 335 on the heights north of Heschkino. Eastern theatre of war (Kriegszchauplatz).

The text under Gefreiter says Kriegstamenrolle..

Hi Chaps, here's my 'write up' of Thur. Hopefully o.k. Can you add anything I've missed?, cheers, Richard.

    Wehrpass To Gefreiter Albert Thur.
    Grenadier Regiment 335.
Born 30/07/1914 in Koblenz. He was Catholic and a labourer in civilian life.
    Entitled to: - Ostmedaille - 13/04/42, Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz - 18/08/42 and Deutsches Schutzwall - Ehrenzeichen - 09/05/40.

He served with a couple more units before going on active service with 10.Kp.284 I.R. from 24/10/41 in Russia as part of the 96th Inf. Div. He was in 2 hospitals in Lutzen and Saarfeld from 28/02/42 to 25/06/42 recovering from wounds from a grenade splinter. 96th Infantry Division.
    Areas of operations
    Germany – Sept 1939 to May 1940.
    France - May 1940 to June 1941.
Eastern Front, Army Group North in the Volkhov/Neva areas- June 1941 to Jan 1944.
Albert served with the Division at this time from 24/10/1941 to 14/02/1942 throughout the severe winter and was awarded the Ostmedaille.
Eastern Front, Army Group South - Jan 1944 to Dec 1944.
Retreat though the Ukraine, Hungary and into Austria – Jan1945 to May 1945.

    The 205th Infanterie-Division.
Initially formed as the 14th Militia Division (German: 14. Landwehr-Division), the division was mobilized a few days before the invasion of Poland in 1939, and remained on garrison duty in Germany throughout that campaign. It was the only Landwehr unit mobilized during 1939-1945 (others that were mobilized were reorganized as 3rd-Wave-style divisions), though the 97th Landwehr Division had been mobilized for the 1938 Anschluss.
It was renamed the 205th Infantry Division on January 1, 1940 and sent to France near the end of the western campaign. It was demobilized in July, but mobilized again in early 1941, and served as a garrison against potential any Allied invasion until early 1942. It was then sent to the Russian Front, where it served with Army Group Center in the "little Stalingrad" at Velikiye Luki over the winter of 1942-1943.
Albert served with the Division at this time from 16/01/1943 to 17/06/1943 when he was killed in action. The division was transferred to Army Group North in late 1943 and eventually trapped in the Courland Pocket, where it surrendered to the Soviets in 1945.
