Purpose of Star Shape figure ?

Hallo Dear Warrelicks Members,

I write to you with a question ?. What was the purpose of such a star for the Red Army Soldier. Sometimes such a stars comes with 2 holes to put a thread in. But this one has none, What's more there is no visible place for any metal sticks for mounting.

Was this star used for soldier's Pilotka or maybe a hand made buckle ?.

Any suggestions will be gladly appreciated
