Hi looks like a good war time buckle. I don't think it's steel tho
What metal do you suppose it is?
Brass
Yes, there were steel versions.
If it is steel, simply try and affix a magnet to it...
Non nobis, Domine, non nobis, sed nomini tuo da gloriam!
Yep, magnet sticks.
So, it is steel...
No issue concerning authenticity Dear Colleague...
Non nobis, Domine, non nobis, sed nomini tuo da gloriam!
Thanks Rich!
Now for an interesting question... (IMO)
How far back can this be dated? It has the same black paint on steel finish as my 1890's e-tool. I know it can't possibly be made before the soviet union, but my question is; is this possibly an early variant of the buckle? The painted steel seems to be an early production method, if I were to put two and two together.
I have a photo to compare.
