Default SS Buckle - Worth a punt ?

    Hello Gentlemen,
Came across this SS buckle, makers mark 36/42, looking through the SS rouge buckle thread there are a couple of fakes from this maker on pages 2 & 4, the one I'm showing seems to have a different finish to it, the buckle assembly looks similar, being a rank novice I've problems picking out differences in detail on the front. What do members think, worth a punt or a fake. Any information would be helpful.

Is it me - or does the swastika look a little crooked.....I can't really comment on it - I would probably pass if given the choice....but I would love to hear more comments - I'm not an SS buckle specialist!
    Cheers!

    Ben:

As always it would be helpful to ignoramuses like me to know if there are specific problems you can point to (e.g. eagle's beak).

    Thanks.

Look at the swastika, badly formed, and i believe that the surrounding piping around the whole buckle should extend into the eagles head from the right, at least on most makes, but this is one that would be ringing alarm bells with me, i know there are other indications of fake but the more experienced should deal with these

    Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the posts, I thought this thread had died through lack of interest. Ben, I will post the pictures of this one in the SS fake gallery. I did find a picture of a original buckle on the internet, I'll post it and members can compare the differences,I did find a couple of differences, as mentioned in a earlier post the beaded edge of the circle is missing between wing and back of eagles head, also pebbling effect between wing and back of head / front of head and wing is missing, also feather breast pattern is a bit different, original has more, feathers seem more triangular on fake. I'm sure there are other differences, one thing I find hard to spot are the differences in the heads, if members find one could they tell me, eye, tongue, head form whatever.

Hi guys, have a good look at this thread, it will teach you the basics in spotting fake SS buckles, this is actually quite an easy fake to spot if you know what to look for, the triangle breast feathers, ears and makers mark are biggest (amongst lots more ) have a good read
