Default SS EM Steel buckle, thoughts?

    Hi guys,

Just wondering what you thought of this belt and buckle. It came to me from a guy I know owns a toy shop. He bought a big train set collection and he asked the seller, a pretty old guy if he had any militaria. He had this belt and buckle as well as the other SS I asked about the other day. It's apparently been in his hands for decades. Anyway, it's a 155/43 steel with traces of green paint. The catch is broken off, but looks like it happened years ago. The ends of the buckle have been folded in. I was puzzled but then I thought about it, if you put the hook behind these bent in bits it hold pretty solid.

So, thoughts on whether it's real or not? It looks nice in my hands, patina looks old. Also, has anyone heard of buckles been bent to hold the belt in this way? The belt is late war no adjustment tab, numbers very faint, not sure if RB No. or not...

    Cheers guys,
    Lenny

Cheers Ben, although not a specialist in buckles, my gut feeling was good on this one. It's taking a while to get my collector's eye back in but happy to have scored 2 ss buckles in nearly as many days. They both came from the same old guy, just another friend beat me to the first one. I ended up getting it from him, so cost me a small mark up but overall both came in cheaply.

Have you seen buckles bent in this way before to hold the hook?

Lenny, the buckle should have the catch as you know, I doubt the bend in the buckle would hold the belt on to be honest

That's what i thought, but it's actually very very solid. The steel buckle is solid and looking closely it apears that it was bent many years ago. I'm happy to leave as is, as I like salty combat worn items. I'm not too keen on mint unissued items...
