Is this 1st Pattern Model 1933 SS Dagger and scabbard by Gottlieb Hammesfahr real or fake?
The dagger is comprised of varied period fittings mostly mid to late period.
Guards are the plated type not belonging to a Hammesfahr type dagger.
Grip eagle should be nickel which over the span of 80 years never lose any nickel.
The grip eagle is the later plated type having a copper base which on some late dagger examples is normal to see a plate loss exposing the silvering. In turn the grip has been messed with.
The dagger is fake enough not being original to itself in that context.

The display box means nothing. As I have always said in the past ..All it takes when seeking to by an SS dagger is one detail that never belonged there from the beginning is enough to see and walk away.
