Hi Cogwheel, thank you very much for your information. I lost definition when I tried to zoom on your two HL daggers. Is it just my eyes or is there a variation between both your scabbards? The overall height of the oakleaves / distance to the scabbard mouth seems different between the two?

    Kindest regards, Grant.

greimers: There is a slight difference, but if you take a look at Wittmann's book you will find the same variations within those examples shown in that book. This may be due to the fact that these scabbards are hand finished and hand assembled individually and at different times. The curvature of the opening has to match the radius curvature of the throat. This involves iterations and corrections to ensure a perfect mating of the surfaces. That is probably the hardest part of the assembly process. This can only be appreciated by those who did the work.

Hi Cogwheel, I had originally intended to share this scabbard with the members several months ago, instead I have been left feeling attacked and fraudulent. I thank you very much for your knowledge and insight.

i can see what you mean but no ones "almightly" we are all equals this as i said a highly specialised area among dagger collecting not everyone can get everything correct and you must admit that to a unspecialised person it does look kind of like a bit of a fantasy peice.....even thought it might not be

I'm sorry if I sometimes sound vindictive or spiteful but people need to understand that there are some examples of Third Reich memerabilia that are not "text-book". My Father's uniform is a perfect example, his insignia was hand sown on by my GrossMutti - where does that stand ??
