    Default SS 36 pattern Dagger

Someone offers to sell me this SS Dagger, for a reasonable price. There is no maker on the blade, I heard this is quite common for these kind of daggers. Is it a real one? Some antiques saler, specialised in old weapons, wrote a certificate for it but I assume anyone can do this. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Hi Bart welcome to the forum..unfortunately the chained scabbard is a recent repro in many respects..mainly the detail on the skulls themselves on the tabs.

Check out this pinned link here..and scroll down to Post #7 ..look at the image on the right which is an authentic Type I skull.

Chained SS Study of the 4 Chain types

The chain links and silvering application are all recent. I cant say anything about the dagger..being authentic..and would have to assume at the moment that its also included as fake..due to the nature of the poor photos and washed out use of a Flash from a camera.

Thanks for posting regardless..which your contribution will be included in the forums data base. If possible..we would like to see better photos of the dagger. Regards Larry

Thanks for your reply Larry. I have only one more picture, a little more detailed. But none more of the dagger

Hi Bart and thankyou for the extra photo..yet the outcome is still the same regarding the authenticity of the chain..in my previous post.

A question to ask yourself when collecting these high end types of Chained SS daggers..is what is the dealers offering price? That should be a guide whether to run away..or be very cautious due to the construction that may be questionable in appearance.

These particular daggers start around $5500 US depending upon condition for a Type I chain. Regards Larry

Thank you Larry, disappointed but still interested in finding an authentic one, doesn't have to be an officer's dagger though. But still There is so much mixing and replica that it is becoming sad sometimes. If you know of any trustworthy dealers, in the States, Europe or even better Belgium please let me know. Greetings Bart
