Question Could you help me with this SS helmet, please?

    Hello Forum members,

I found this helmet online, it is for sale.
    First some info that comes with it;

    - m42 shell
    - readable production numbers ..887
    - manufacturers code NS 66
    - beneath the rust, field gray paint

Some parts are cleaned to make the numbers more readable.

So, I have next to zero experience with these helmets,
and it would be very nice if you could provide me with some guidance regarding originality.

Furthermore, if all is well, could the rust be cleaned, or would you keep it the way it is?

    See the pictures below.

Hmm now I feel dumb. To be honest, I did not look that up. In general, I only ask questions if I cannot figure it out myself.

In this case, the helmet it on a dealers' website, and I did not question his knowledge. Not one second. Lesson learned, I will not trust anyone selling stuff.

    Thanks people...

Agree, certainly was never an SS helmet, also agree that even the best of dealers make mistakes intentional or not! Leon.

    Schwerpunkt,

I saw your site before, great website.

I said to the man, that NS did not make SS helmets,
but he said they did, and he referred to Hicks' book SS-steel?

    Someone able to further clarify?

    Thank you

Many of the Champagne Rune helmets are NS's, but those are not authentic. They have been proven to be painted high end forgeries that fooled many for many years but were outted about 4 years ago. NS did not make SS helmets. Jim G.
