Default Holger Danske "SS" Helmet postscript

    Hi fellow sufferers,

You may recall a relic helmet I posted in this forum a couple of months back where I thought the decal on it was legit..... well it wasn't and thus educated I couldn't stand a round bottomed fake on what was otherwise a nice relic Danish resistance helmet that someone had "spiced up"

So to quote Shakespeare, it was " out damn spot, out I say" ...... and this is the result. Pretty good. eh?
It was surprising just how easy it came off and how resilient the original paint still is - I was worried that it may be damaged in the attempt but not so.

So guys, has a fraud lid now regained it's legitimacy?

Thanks guys..... here's how I did it.
First, I heated the decal up with a hot air gun ( carefully ) then used a small brass bristle bush to loosen it all.
Then a cotton bud ( Q tip ) dipped in acetone & rolled over the decal scooping up as much as I could quickly as the acetone dried
( repeat several times with new cotton buds each time until the decal is virtually gone - transferred to the buds )
Then used turps ( turpentine ) which I tested first on another area of the paint and scrubbed with a scotchbrite pad until all was clear
then scuffed the surface with dry 00 steel wool and that was it.

You know, the closer I look at that first pic, the more I think that SS decal might be legit...............

If anyone would like a custom piece of artwork for your war room please let me know! I am currently doing A2 sized sketches of a subject of your choice. Either copy an existing picture or create a scene based on your brief. Details in the 'other militaria' section of the classifieds.
