I have had this for quite a while. It is an M40 shell, a Q I believe, that was repainted, adorned with a Pocher runic shield (applied haphazardly at a noticeable cant) and reissued to the SS. I think it is a size 62, but the interior skirt was repainted as well and I can't find the Maker/Size stamp, and can only make out part of the lot number. It took an unfortunate hit in the runic shield, with, apparently, enough energy to knock the shell out of round. It is complete with a well marked chin strap, but I think the strap may have been added post War as the long end is torn at the rivet near the bale. Not the best SS helmet out there. Never the less, it is my only SD M40. Hope you like it. Jim G.
I've seen rub marks like these on motorcycle helmets that have rubbed on the rear tire, hanging from the helmet holder. No way to know if it was done post war or not. Very handsome helmet.
Hi Jim a nice Q M40 Pocher SS helmet , those "rub" marks certainly look as though heat was involved at some point so I can see the "tyre theory" standing up! Leon.
