The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

    1st July 1916

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

What sets this aside from other lids is that the helmet was recovered from the positions of SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment 24 " Danmark " and the liner has the initialed letters OM , due to the place of recovery there is a strong possibly ythat it belonged to SS Rottenfuhrer Oluf Meyer , KIA in action on 3/8/1944

Great to see how the cover both protected the helmet and blistered the paint. ( love the small piece left stick on )
Are these other 2 rockers off this helmet as well Paul?
