Re: m42 ss decal battle dug opinion needed please
Pick ax damage? yikes I would hope that when a relic digger gets a hit with his metal detector that he doesnt start wacking the area with a pick ax, but you never know I guess, and in responding to ostlanddigger the sellers name was DIMA. Thanks for all the help again.

Re: m42 ss decal battle dug opinion needed please
The damage by pick axe is not neccesarily caused by diggers, it could have happened in period, by soldiers other than the wearer at the end of the war by being dumped, its just something to look out for as the tool leaves a distinct mark

For sure i can say that there are diggers in Latvia who use Pick axes.Spade is moust common tool, axe for cutting root,s and sometimes we use excavator if landscape allow for KIA recovery.
Seller name Dima don,t say nothing, sorry but there are many Dimas(or Dimitry,s) in Latvija.Do you have last/second name ?If not -no worries,as i don,t see nothing wrong with this helmet.
If you are lokking for some relic helmets you may check my selling list on Specialistsauctions-my name is: kammler: there. From time to time i post some relics helmets there for sell.

Re: m42 ss decal battle dug opinion needed please
I think you can do very well with relics from Ostlandigger, he has a very large selection and is a respected member on this forum

Re: m42 ss decal battle dug opinion needed please
Well if it is Ostlander he bought it off, then i am in no doubt it's a honest helmet. Happy to know this because i now know that my hunch on it being good was correct. It being from ioffer made me somewhat skeptical.

Re: m42 ss decal battle dug opinion needed please
UPDATE...More decal pics for review...Hi all, I receieved my helmet today and tried to take as many close up pics as I could, I looked at everything through a 30X magnifying loop(not sure what I was looking for)but I didnt notice anything odd or concerning, the ss decal is either real to the period or someone has too much time on thier hands to fake it, there also appears to be the remains of a decal on the left side, not sure which kind it was, and also appears to be lettering(name?) on the back inside brim, the photos are below, 1st pic is the full ss decal, 2nd pic is close up top of the ss decal, 3rd pic is close up bottom of the ss decal, 4th pic is the left side unknown remains,5th pic is name or lettering inside the back brim, let me know what you think and thanks for your help. Very nice pics. It looks good to me. Could be really interesting if it was possible to reveal the name and research the soldier.
