    That decal shield has an Awfully Round looking Bottom to it...

    Sorry but not for me. The round bottom and amazing condition of the decal give me pause considering the helmets condition.

    Hi, looks like a fake ET type decal to me and not a "fat runes" decal that would only be on pre-war helmets. Leon.

    Apart from what's been said, the chin strap looks awfully intact.....when leather dries out after being submerged in water for a long time,,,it disintegrates

    Interesting opinions.

    I told the guy who found it. That this one will probaly recognized as a "fake" doue the decal and M42 type of the helmet. Like you said John chin strap is still soft and usable. I got it as a gift for helping to catch the helmet with the magnet. sometimes items are perfectly preserved in the mud. Thanks for the opinions.

    So you pulled this from bottom of lake? Maybe the fakers were practicing on this one, thought it was no good then dumped it? Find any fake mg42's down there?

    If the chinstrap is well preserved, what does the liner look like? Any photos?
