Not a minty lid but a nice solid helmet and my first SS. Plus a Vet purchase.

It got it's flaws (primarily poor storage) but I like it! The first is always special.

Up for show and tell is an M42 EF66 with a darling of a decal. Lot # 3589. Missing a chin strap. Liner size is 58 and is actually in really nice shape despite the look of it. Still pliable and relatively soft.

Can not determine the date on the liner band.

The lid does have some rust and is quite salty, but it appears fairly recent and probably due to sitting in an attic or garage. But it is only surface rust and will now be maintained in a nice environment.

Now my question: The liner band and bales have black paint on them. Odd. It does not appear that the helmet was ever black or or taped up with an overpaint. Appears to be an original plain jane M42. Any thoughts? (and yes the liner and pins are unmessed with)

    Any and all comments welcome.

    Michael

Thanks to KB for giving me the opportunity. Some of these are his pictures. Got home from a nightmare commute today (reminiscent of the movie Trains, Planes and Automobiles) so could not shoot my own except for the black paint and liner.

Nice helmet with plenty of decal, weird on the black paint. The only way paint gets in there is someone put it there. When, how and why is purely speculation now.

Now to decide where to hide if for a while, so that later you can answer the inevitable question with a clear conscience: "what, that thing? Oh, I've had it for a loooong time!"

Very nice addition to your collection. Congrats to you!

Hi Michael, well done mate, that is a good honest EF M42 with a super decal. There are no worries with this helmet at all, as for the black paint? The only thing I can think of is that the original wearer wanted to prevent the "glare/shine" from the liner band for some reason, but as Doug says, the reason is lost to time now! Leon.
