Hi guys,
I have been offered this relic helmet from a member of this forum. I would like to get the SS experts' opinions on the decal.
Thanks,
Mo

Looks Dodgy to me
Looks like the decal's been there a long time to me....

We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.

Isn't it weird that almost the 2/3 of the helmet are covered from rust but the decal is 90% intact?

I can get a close-up if it would help.
I believe it would

Looks good enough to me, it's always a shame when the decals are washed to this extent though... it just sets them apart too much from the rest of the helmet's condition imo, that one's almost off-white. Good luck if you're set on it and loving it though!
Mo, need a closeup of the decal and it looks like the size maker and lot number stampings are readable can you get those as well. Has a good chance from what I see so far.
Hi Chris, decals are very durable and the decal combined with the lacquer really does protect that part of the helemt from rust, so that is why they often survive better than the other parts of the lid which are just painted. But caution is a good thing. Not every decal on a relic helmet is good.
Cheers, Ade.
