The gates of hell were opened and we accepted the invitation to enter" 26/880 Lance Sgt, Edward Dyke. 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers , ( 3rd Tyneside Irish )

    1st July 1916

Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

It's pretty sad that people have to fake history, even when it comes to items as such....

Very sad indeed. They will fake any ss object for a quick buck, even items which never existed. Good ole' supply and demand. Thanks for the reference Paul.

We find them with bits of cover still on mate but i've only seen one where maybe half the cover was still intact on the helmet !!

Here are one & a half that I own. All parts are alloy except for the rivet. The hook is 2mm thick and the strap is only 0.7mm
A lot of intricate fiddly tooling and assembly work for a simple cover!
    Cheers, Dan
