I can tell you what I Think. The decal isn't an obvious fake, IMO. No round bottom, runes end at the break, they( the fakers) are getting pretty good at faking these, however. The others will tell you more, wether the lot number and make fit the SS factory orders . Collecting these is tricky business. I'm glad you came here first.

Don't bother, the decal is a fake.

It's a Pocher if anything (so not a factory applied decal, on an M42), but the border seems a bit thick to me. We would need a pic at a dead straight angle, very close and in focus to make a proper call. Outdoor pics are best with no flash. At this moment I am thinking a very good Pocher fake, but personally I can't be sure based on these pics.

Edit: SSamir got in as I was typing

    These pics confirm my findings.

Agree with Samir. I see at least 2 red flags on the decal itself, I wouldn't chase this one.

Judging by the dyed liner, I speculate this may be an ex-Norwegian Reissue...
    cheers, Glenn

Could be Glenn, I thought the same. The liner leather pins are the usual German flat head alu type though, but I'm not sure if the Norwegians always stripped them completely. If it was good and solid at the time they would most likely leave the original pins in place.

I would add the liner has been replaced as well, look at the unnatural bends to the liner band. The buckle on the chinstrap looks iffy too, I am of the impression that M42 chinstraps should generally have the later war steel buckles rather than aluminium.
