    Default SS Stahlhelm Hand Camo.

    Hello everyone,
Pretty excited to have joined and many thanks for having me!
I've been collecting German Militaria for a while now, both wars.
I bought the enclosed single-decal SS Stahlhelm back in the early 90s from a reputed seller in a Montreal militaria show. He described it as an 'SS Hand-Camouflaged M1942 Stahlhelm'. The chinstrap was added from an M1940 Heer Stahlhelm for display purposes.
What do you think of it?

Sorry to say but this is a fantasy piece. Bad factory paint + bad decal + bad camo and liner.
You are lucky to have bought it in the nineties when SS gear was much less expensive than it is today.

Thank you gentlemen for your insight; although it hurts at least now I know...
I paid $350 (Canadian) back in 1989 (so I guess the equivalent of less than $250 US)...
So nothing at all is authentic in it (apart from the shell itself I guess which is probably Heer)?
    Is it at least M1942?

It's a post war overpainted original M42 shell. Only a decal will tell you to which branch a helmet belongs as all branches were issued the same shells.

No big loss of $$$ thankfully , just ditch it ;-)

Thanks for the clarification. I always thought it was too good to be true.
But what's that liner in it? (it is different from the usual Heer liners and has the size punctured in it...)

Sorry not a German liner found in M42s bad paint and SS decal. At least it's not thousands of dollars.
