It just looks in remarkable condition , when 1st found it looks to be the dark leather thats usually found when been buried and wet for 70 years, and once shown to the air it usually dries up but this looks perfect, they look to have done a great job on cleaning and preserving it , would love it in my collection even if leather had been replaced , rgds Dave
But for sure leather is soft after the years under the fat layer of blue clay. Take a look here
