SS Winter camo remnant M40 ET

It is an M40 ET 64 lot number 842 single decal SS with a textbook well toned ET canted decal you see on these M40 ET's from time to time.

The winter whitewash is in the recessed areas of the paint, so was well worn prior to whitewashing it. Then some sort of solvent was used to remove the whitewash and the solvent probably was not washed off after leaving tell tale marks on the paint below. Inside the 1940 dated linerband is dated 1940 with an unmarked chinstrap and whitewash remains on the skirt save wear marks of the chinstrap and where the soldier would have grabbed the helmet to remove and adjust it by the front bill. Around the base of the skirt there is more yellowing but this can be seen closely on the whitewash as time ages it and slowly turns it yellow. Much white wash can be seen in the recessed areas where the solvent didnt get into. There also appears to be a name which was rubbed off.

Thats a great helmet! I like the remnants of the whitewash that are still visible, i personally think this makes the helmet look better.

I keep coming back to look at these photo's. This is one stunning helmet. It absolutely oozes character and history. Real eye candy, a pleasure to just look at, let alone own! Thanks for posting this one here Doug
