    I wouldnt class this as battle damaged, to me it looks like plain rusted through, look at the thickness of the metal on top , ultra thin, I think that during shipping , quite a lot of the top would end up loose in the box

    Why is parts of the decal in the bottom of the rust pits?

    Well spotted testmatch ..... and the answer is because the decal and helmet are NOT the same age as each other. When DougB returns from watching cars going round a track he may also point out he THIN black border as well as the lack of any base.
