Your posts are wonderful. The point is, merely, that these things can be found in various states of preservation, and the comparison of the undamaged state of a more or less intact badge on a cap contrasts usefully with the war relic and object of military archaeology.
The contrast is historical in that it shows the viewer the range of contexts in which these items exist.
And, each collector approaches this material differently.
Also, I have a personal fondness for the Danziger Totenschaedel not the least because it seldom if ever has an RZM mark of any kind, and, because it is aesthetically as pleasing to me as the Deschler type that everyone salivates on the cupal too much here.

While I am not seized of the "stone mint" hysteria that an object should be in an un used state, as if just gotten from the RZM retailer two weeks ago, I am also not so possessed of the battle field archaeology thing as most of you. That is a matter of taste, really.
Variety is the key here, and the contrast of the things reveals a complete and more nuanced picture.

The end of the Pearl Harbor veterans association seventy years after the events on Oahu and elsewhere remind me, at least, of the passage of time, whereby a piece still on a cap has its place here, too, I think, since it was on a cap that this piece was usually a witness to history until its wearer perished in combat, or threw away his uniform on the run from the Red Army.
