Hi. Need expert opinion on these. SS Stuff is not my strong point. If they are not good please explain why. It helps.

The Top One is marked with a "40" sideways on the right fan portion of the feathering. On the opposite side there is what looks like a circle with the rzm in it.
It's not very clear. Bottom one is unmarked.

It's extremely rare to actually find these on a hat F.B., or so it seems.

Many caps were stripped, but surely not all. See enclosures. The pieces I include here have organic, more or less original insignia---or I surely think so. I, for one, do not care if the insignia is replaced so long it of the proper type. That is the problem, as the Neusilber insignia of the era 1936-1939 or so are very problematic to find at a reasonable price, since they were 15 dollars in my memory dim as it might be.

I do not collect insignia per se, as I have noted above.

This piece for sale now has what I think are original insignia, or, at least the Hoheitszeichen was added ca. 1936 once the newer eagle came into circulation. Or maybe the insignia was moved, or not. It is hard to know, really, since collectors take off the insignia and then screw up the reattachment.

SS cap insignia have come the subject of wild speculative frenzy.

Certain collectors or dealers invent new categories of rarity and desirability that we old f*rts find curious, granted how rare all of this material is in any case without making it even more difficult.

Stripping insignia from caps and tunics has sadly always been a feature of collector and dealer vandalism to these objects.

PS as I look at the Totenschaedel here, maybe it is moved somehow. But from its finish it appears to be at least of the era or not. I have only seen the images in electronic form and the piece comes from a very well known old line collector.

Dear Brian, these images are all re-treads of things you have seen, but they are, I believe, examples of caps with the same insignia as in 1945, but who can really say with 110% certainty.

I will look at the thread about which you pm'd me when I am free.

    All the best, FB
