Do look for what Robin Lumsden posts about these on the various sites, including this one, but also the Wehrmacht Awards and the World War Raymong G forum.

I rely on Lumsden for the most incisive expertise on these badges.

If this is of the period, your piece looks like a collar patch badge for army armor units.

The Danziger Totenkopf came in many versions, and, of course, is also faked. It came in a version for the Pelzmuetze, for the Schirmmuetze, and for other uses, as well, as on insignia.

Here is a rare variant on an even more rare grey SS cap of early make.

This is colleague d'Alquen's wonderful cap. This is the version seen frequently, and in this case, authentic and in situ.....

an exemplar, of yet another variation....seldom found... The man with the piercing gaze here is Wilhelm Kube, later a noted mass murderer and tormentor of present day Belarus in its Nazi form.

Hi Jan, I would agree with "FB", that this is a Heer Panzer collar insignia. However, a much better pic is required to determine originality.

    Cheers, Ade.
