Hi guys, i am about to acquire this set from another member.
Late war ones, made of zinc, probably from 1944/45 period.
Any ideas on how to remove the zinc pest? Lemon and vinegar is making this to disappear but it's also destroying the finish.
Can Renaissance wax help?

I just use constant aplicatons of WD 40 to keep it in check. There is also the vaseline treatment.

Yes i have heard about vaseline but wanted to confirm it. I suppose renaissance wax will also do the treatment? I know that wax is "sealing" the items and i use it on many of my collectibles. But i'm wondering if it's ok to apply wax or vaseline when the corrusion is still inside or if i have ro remove it some how and then "seal" it? I'm worrying that if i lock the corrusion inside maybe it will keep eating the metal.

I think that wax will only seal the corrosion inside. Never tried the vasaline treatment myself.
I spray with WD 40 then carefully using a blade try to remove as much of the corosion as possible, avoiding actually scratching the item (the spray seems to make this easier) Let it dry, see the result then do it again if nessesary. Not quite the same but here is the before and after of a tinnie I just recieved, This took about 1 hour.

Does it keep the reviving color when it dries or is it due to the oil effect?

Forgot to mention, I did give this a coat of clear shoe! polish. For some reason my scanner has made it look bronzed and darker than it is. The WD 40 will dry out.

I would coat in vaseline and let sit for 48 hours. Then remove with a q tip or old t shirt! Works magic on zinc pest. I would do this maybe 2x's a year!
