I only collect those Zimmermann badges more or less for the black cap, which this is not.

The Zimmermann badge is faked.

And many fakes are aged to look as they were found on the Ostfront of blessed memory or whatever trash heap of history pp.

I realized that I have a zinc badge of this kind after I wrote blithely that I do not collect these things.

Here it is. It is marked only M1/72 without the later VA contract number. I do not take it off each day to please my perverse interest in RZM license numbers.

It is in situ.

It is not much help, but it is better than a stick in the eye.

I do not really delve into all variants of these badges. I am silly when I wrote that I did not have one when I really do.

It is a function of old age and too much stuff.
