I have some images of real alu cap insignia somewhere. The alu insignia for the grey uniform was introduced in 1936 at a time when the field units of the SS were not especially sizable, and by the time these units grew in mobilization to their war time strength the alu insignia were or were not phased out in favor of wartime materials. I.e. aluminum was needed elsewhere.
Good alu insignia have been faked since at least the 1970s.
This here is a primitive fake.
