My question is what is the purpose of this piece? Without a definitive purpose of this item, it is likely a fantasy item. These are questions and not a definitive answer as I also have never seen an item like this before.

Could it be some kind of half finished skull? The patina looks very, very convincing but could of course be faked. I like the fact that there seems to be soil attached to the surface, it looks very much like it should after beeing in the ground for many years.

This is unfinished visor cap skull which are very similar to Latvian SS skull (design and prongs), but made from zink instead of aluminum like Latvian SS skull. So question is - this is original unfinished skull or not.
