The winking skull (in an old photo of mine) on the reverse of the Schellenbaum banner. Of note I am told by those that collect these sorts of things that the D IV matching trumpet banner and schellenbaum banner are the only matched set of these known. The battalion was disbanded in 1938 and converted into the reconnaissance battalion for the regiment. These were both found together and I bought them from Stephen Wolfe's personal collection several years back.

Sorry for dissing the banner Doug & Hawkins but it just looked so weird to me and more like something Picasso would have done rather than the SS.
The quality looks great, but ( to me ) the styling is just so "awkward"

I wonder why the crossed bones are three pronged (in one case four pronged) at the ends.
Two pronged would make more sense.

What a lesson! I will likely never own one of these but its nice to know the details on the real deal. I knew there were some funky looking cloth items, but I was right with Dan on this one!
