Post 13: Yes, the photo left was included in volume 4 from the headgear-series page 16 and came
from the old collection from my old friend Jost W. Schneider.

Over 30 years ago I have made a note about "Donau". Pitily I did not make a note where I had found it.
The members from Oberabschnitt "Donau" were allowed to wear a cuffband after June 19, 1934. The band
however was worn for a short moment only. In August 1934 the cuffband must have been withdrawn, when
the NSDAP from Austria was moved to Munich.

At a specific moment - about 1934 - this type of lettering as for the "Donau"-cuffband was quite common.
See some samples from photographs in my files, supplied by friends.

Note the type of "Umlaut". I forgot the name of the guy, but it was a Gunther
    anyway (Delich)

Other photographs would suggest that the title was worn when the Oberabschnitt was situated in Munich. It is difficult to to say for how long it was worn. There is a lot of correspondance about Austrian insignia so there may be an answer somewhere.
After the Anschluss in 1938 there was a very brief period after it returned to Vienna when the Oberabschnitte was called 'OA Oesterreich" and a new cufftitle was announced in June of that year. But almost immediately the name was changed back to Donau and by the Autumn the listing (1045) was given over to the Donau title.

Thanks for the further items of notable interest. At the risk of repeating myself, the Rothlaender book also briefly describes the SS in Austria after 1938, as well as in exile in the era 1933-1938.

In the "Mitteilungsblatt der Reichszeugmeisterei", nr. 3 from June 16, 1934
one started with the most important orders in relation to the SS-uniforms,
according orders from the RFSS from March 23, 1934.
In nr. 4 from June 23, 1934 this was continued. With page 6 the cuffband for the
SS-Oberabschnitt "Donau" was included (see image). While there was a lot
of misunderstanding further the order from May 5, 1934 about the Politische
    Bereitschaften
was included, as well as notes about the SS special forces. For
Austrian SS members it meant that no insignia was to be worn with the right collar
    patch.

When SS price-list 1 was published in the Mbl.d.RZM, nr. 29 from December 15,
1934 a cuffband with "Donau" was not included anymore. With an order from
    Himmler (Chef des SS-Amtes I O Nr. 08281 K./E.) from October 24, 1934 an
    "insignia" re-organization was started.

To add to Wim's RZM mention of the Donau title in June 1934 it would appear from personnel files that the Oberabschnitt Donau was dissolved as of November 1934. (So the cuffband was in place for about 5 months.) After November SS-Sammelstelle appears in the SS-Befehlsblatter where Donau was previously listed.
