Here are some pics of what appears to be an original theatre made SS camo hat. Seller said they found it at an estate sale with the insignia removed...... not sure the authenticity, as there were many types of camo, i have several reference books on the subject. However, if it is theatre made, there is really no proof of age, i would like opinions on this hat. Thanks guys!

Field made items are very hard to authenticate. Might be 1944 or could equally be 2004.......

I agree Ade, age would be hard to tell authenticate, however there are ways of narrowing it down. The construction of the hat, the matreial and the U.V. light test. These are not 100% accurate, but they should help. So with the overall construction, what is your opinion Ade?

It certantly appears to have had a TK and eagle insignia at one point. The insignia was only authorized on this cap for about two weeks before the high command changed they're mind and had the soldiers remove them in the field. Only a handful of these w/ period applied insignia still remain on the cap . Mr. Hritz owns two examples that I am aware of. So, that said, I would feel more comfortable to have one w/out the insignia because they're "less rare". IMO.

The construction looks OK for a field made item.
