Article about: I have no clue sorry I thought he was British Free Corp (old style uniform) but looking at the description nvm, rank of schutze?

    Not many of the Frei Korps wre Donuaschwabians from the Banat !!!

    Certainly if he served in both Russia and Normandy as a member of the Waffen SS he may have been recruited into Prinz Eugen but then as with many others posted on to one of the other SS Divisions , due to his combat locations it is possible that he was with Hohenstaufen or Frundsburg that would be my guess !!

    Almost looks like 23 WSS "Kama" sunflower collar . but they say they were never issued . Good luck

    That would make sense, because he said that he was captured by the British (escaped once, and recaptured later). After capture, he was turned over to US forces where he spent the rest of the war under guard picking lettuce in Oregon.

    I sure appreciate everyones input. Sorry for the poor quality of the photo. When they were expelled from Yugoslavia after the war, and the women sewed familiy pictures into their clothing so that they would have some kind of identification to find their men with. That's why it's so wrinkled. They were reunited 2 years after the war.
