Default Cloth SS Armband for Summer Use?

So I have this SS armband and its pretty odd. I picked it up from a gentleman that actually owns and operates a Militaria show in a major US city. I trust him and actually my grandmother would buy/sell/trade with him. He swears this is authentic and it does pass black light testing. I've just never seen another one. What do you all think? Note the "Oben" (Up) print inside.

The ink stamp on the interior is serves no purpose as there is no way to mount this piece upside down. It is an idea copied from the 1939 pattern NSDAP Leader armbands. The black tape is incorrect and should be ribbed. Cotton armbands were worn on the brownshirt. I have no reason to think this piece was made in the period. It is good to do your own research and not put 100% faith in any dealer. They can make a mistake as there is much to know these days in the hobby.

Hi Bob, thank you for the information. I know very little in the world of SS armbands. I did notice that Wittman currently has 2 armbands (not the same as mine) for sale on his site and they both have an "oben" stamp with the black arrow pointing upward.

I'm definitely not arguing your point, but they are being offered online by a trusted source. You make a great point when you say that the stamp is pointless since you can't wear it upside down. I hadn't realized that.

When you say the black tape should be ribbed, do you mean it should be straight vertical lines instead of the zig zag style on mine? Thanks again.

I began collecting in 1956 and have NEVER seen a SS armband like this. Now, there are suddenly three that we know of? Tom is an edged weapon specialist. That does not necessarily make him an authority on many other areas of collecting including SS cloth. As i mentioned previously, all dealers make mistakes. I would not want one of these in my collection.

I've been looking at this piece also, and I have to say that I agree with Bob. If you look at the shape and length of the arms of the swastika, they are not evenly made and abit crooked too. The stamp, as been said, is just further proof of someone making it for purely fraudulent purposes. The have an arrow stating this side up is basically like putting one on a cue ball. What would be the reason? Sorry, but this is one that I would definitely pass on.

I don't see anything I like on this one except the backsewing of the swas-circle.

Never seen another with a herringbone band, the swaz is awful, the stamp is pointless and unlike Sid I do not like the stitching on the interior for the disc attachment.

Also, everyone can get it wrong and that includes dealers no matter how good their reputation.

    Jerry

    Whatever its just an opinion.

the stitching is a bit odd. I have a cotton SS armband with 2 piece sewn in RZM tag. 35 date if I remember right. here it is to compare. there are no red threads in the black line. it is a lighting effect some how.
