I got this interesting Picture today. The Picture is dated on the back: "Stralsund/Ostsee den 15.Juli 42".

The soldier is still wearing his old SS3 tab. I guess this is his "left at home" Walking out tunic.

This reminds me of M16fan combat worn "Der Führer" officers collar tab , I would think this was a rare occurrence . Pre-war insignia being worn till the surrender , a true veteran piece . Great photo

We also have a portrait, which if its date is to be believed, is of SSTV black uniform worn in the same year.

Collector group think and gun show old wives tales of the textbook don't hold up with the pictorial evidence we possess nowadays.

Thanks you for the additional information , i'm surprised to see these still listed in the 1942 price list . I've always thought these would be pre-war items , thanks for the correction .

Thanks to all for their kind words and for their contribution.

The information regarding the price list from 1942 is very interesting. Thanks for sharing this document.

Here is such a tab in 2016 and in 2 other period pictures - the one from the officer in the grey tunic is named to Mr. Karl Silberleitner:

When I secured this rare document, I was surprised by much of what is in it. There are many facts here that refute collector group think and then some.

DF SS3 Tab in wear - 1942DF SS3 Tab in wear - 1942It may also be that the Austrians who did or did not wear this badge wanted to distinguish their Austrian ness in the midst of the Piefkes.
Such strange things are not impossible. This is a theory, but one based on a long life lived among the peoples of Vienna and such.
