    The crown of the black SS cap rose over the period from 1932 until 1939 in a series of stages, which is a way to determine, more or less, the date
    of the cap. This process corresponded with the 4 forms of the NSDAP cap cut in the military style introduced in 1933.
    Wim Saris has described this process in his book.

    The original NSDAP peaked cap was modeled on the army field cap of the wartime. The SS began to wear a military style peaked cap before the NSDAP in general.
