These caps both have sweat bands rendered by hand, but also the rubber padding to the forehead as well as a kind of pre Lubstein cushion of fabric between the peak and the sweat band. It is hard to see in these images, but it is there.

You can see this small Einlage here. It is not a shadow, but a piece of cloth interspersed between the peak and the band as a cushion. Notice the hand stitching. This is done in the manner of millenery of the era. No spasdic hand of the 21st century could do it so well. This kind of detail work is nowwhere in the later caps....see below.

also - if you have any computer wonks with photo shop or similar image-editing software they can scan images like this and maybe clarify some "fuzzy" detail. or moto photo or ritz in the states can do this for you - or show you how on their little in-store "creation stations."

Sorry for my abstinence but life is very busy for me lately, also with a new upcoming move inside of SoCal or maybe to the midwest again. I will know more in a view weeks ...
