Yes, I did, indeed. But I did not learn how to do wood work. We had a summer school for US high school kids from Ohio who then imbibed
the clean air and pleasing culture of the Alps, including the generalized story of the von Trapp family.
Long ago and far away. I wish I could say that I found hoards of pristine SS uniforms there, but I did not. I did encounter
Austrians my age from Nazi families who did not want the US Americans to go to Dachau, because they thought such a thing
in bad taste. Coming to grips with the past, as it were. I was the US person implanted among Austrians who worked for a US foreign study firm.
It was an experience. I was a serious collector at that point, too, but what I discovered in people around me was more significant than the things I show here.
The next year I went to university in Bonn, West Germany.
The experience in Kuchl/Hallein was not like Im weissen Roesserl, really.
