A poor attempt at faking the cap. The shape is reminiscent of old Sovit caps. It is no an old fake.

I just saw this cap marked as "Sold" just now. The piping and visor is what gave it away for me.

You did not see this kind of thing a decade ago, or such items were less sophisticated. As one of you notes, the piping is not properly "eingearbeitet" as in the era.
However, in the panoptikum of fakes elsewhere, I note some caps with well done piping, giving the lie to my dictum taken from the Hempe, Muetzenmacherei book of 1935.

The other piece would be that such firms that were royal purveyors to courts likely dropped this aspect of their advertising once Germany no longer was a monarchy, and the Nazis were very anti royal privilege as part of their ideology. Items made for the SS, then, would have been unlikely to have such an aspect to them. If someone has contrary evidence, I would enjoy seeing it. The procurement policy of the party was self avowedly an expression of its ideological goals. To be sure, the SS courted certain nobles with trappings of nobility shorn of the estates and the old order, which was discredited for its social exclusivity and its failures in war.

The Wittelsbachs, in particular, would have come in for scorn because of the Catholic element and the fact that they were a major pillar of the House of Habsburg, the latter being especially reviled in national socialism for its many failures and its cosmopolitan idea in the 19th and 20th centuries.
