The eagle shown on the thread and the one listed for sale are original. The one on the tan tunic is a fake.
Nice buy for 60 bucks! I wonder how many guards in the photo were thinking "Okey,Buddy! Take off that cross around your neck! You won't be needing it no more..." (Well....I would have been thinking it,anyway...)

At the same auction I got a bronze close combat clasp for $50. But I think I spent all my luck that weekend because I'm sick now :/

I have the book and the eagle is still a fake, compare it to the original one that started the thread. The one on the tunic is a 70s fake made in both red and black.
If you have the book also the green wool italian SS tunic is also a humped up deal.
It's an original model 29 tunic with a fake eagle.
I guess this would be the response from authors

The first photo makes him look really old but when I look closer it matches. Thanks for the info, I would have never have found who that was!
