Hi, and welcome to the forum.

This issue has come up time and time again. To me, monetary value means little: I buy not as an investment but simply for the history of the item and the pleasure of owning it in my lifetime.

American Civil War items are long gone from living memory and prices remain very very high! So I see no worries. I have collected 35 years and prices have never fallen.

    Cheers, Ade.

    What a bizarre thread subject...

There is no "must have" for an SS collector or any other type of collector...

We are not collecting Top Trump cards where you have to aquire the "Ace" in the pack to be judged as a winner.

I'm so sick and tired of this mentality where buying the most expensive item you can find is judged as being something to be congratulated for or a sign of being a well educated collector. It is not, it's just pathetic trophy hunting..

I dont see the point of removing insignia off a SS cap and leaving the injured wounds of where a skull used to be. And worse replacing it with fake insignia. Like wearing somone elses socks.

Good point Ben, and very well said.

If the thread's meaning was, what item would you buy (that you could afford) that would most represent an SS display ..... then I would go with a used set of EM tabs. I think they have charachter and the runes alone show a certain historical significance.

For me it's SS doc groupings (pics too) that reign supreme. But that's what i'm in to. Don't get me wrong,i'd like visors, uniforms etc. But i like the personal touch (not only that,my old lady would kill me if i went any further). Stewy

Prehaps that was the aim of the thread? if so, I apologise.

In any case, it's all a pointless exercise.

Just buy the items that interest you regardless of their perceived importance or value to anyone else.
