Latvian SS Double Swastika Collar Tab - Original/Fake?

Thank you as always Wim, Winkelman and HPL for your contributions. To add a little to the correspondence regarding this piece of insignia, here is the order from Himmler that is referred to in the last document and that HPL has already explained in detail.

Many thanks for adding this! It translates as:

"The Reichsführer-SS
RF/M. 1960/44

Field command post, 27th June 1944

1. For the duration of the war, I order the guard units of the concentration camps to uniformly wear the double-armed Swastika as a patch insigne instead of the "Death's Head".

2. Members of the SS wear the "Sig" runes on the left breast of their uniform tunic.

4. SS-Ostubaf. [...]"

Note that - unlike the letter of 3rd Aug. 1944 - this order refers to the guard units, whereas the camp staffs are not expressly mentioned. Perhaps this was amended/clarified at some point between these two documents.

I always find it amusing to note that even as of late June 1944, there was such fussing and farting around with trivialities as to which piece of cloth to wear on what part of the uniform when really, there were some rather more pressing matters to be attended to.

This love of precisely labeling everything and everybody is quite typical of Third Reich bureaucracy in general and Himmler's mindset in particular.
