Hello all. I'm new here. Could anyone tell me what time period this photo would of been taken based on the uniform and the rank of the SS soldier. Thanks very much!

Is that one of the early Bodyguard ?
FB will be the person for the uniform date ID.
Let us not exaggerate my knowledge here, since these things are often problematic.
The easy answer is to say that I do not think the picture is ca. 1940 or 1942.
The key to date your picture requires a close up of the collar patches, if that is possible.
I propose as a theory that the image is likely from later 1933 or 1934. This man's rank is SS Mann.

or do show us the rest of the picture, please.
The image is not especially distinct in some key factors.
There are many images from 1933 or 1934 of this type, with the rapid growth of the SS.
The man does not have the Ehrenwinkel or a dagger, which are further ways to date the picture.
Our colleague Andreas may have a more insightful observation than mine.
The way to date the cap is to look at its inside, which is not practical.
Wim Saris has taught us that the crown of the cap grew more or less each year from the date of its introduction.
The whole photo can help to identify the period, as others are uniformed
and possibly one can see more when given them a look. I rate the photo
1933, or eventually 1934. Maybe even it is 1935 or so, as it is possible he
is wearing an old uniform!
